JNF London is proud to be honouring Jacob Peretz. He is a thirteenth generation Israeli who came to Canada in 1974. In 1988, he moved to London with his wife Leslie and their two sons, Jonathan and Daniel. Their daughter, Alana, was born in London.
Jacob is a dedicated, passionate and dynamic volunteer. He helped form the Community Relations Committee, which gives voice to important issues in our community through the London Jewish Community News, in articles and letters appearing in the London Free Press, and through hosting round-table discussions.
In 2002, Jacob inaugurated the Israel Lecture Series, bringing to London prominent and engaging speakers addressing the history and current events of Israel. He was the driving force behind the extremely successful Hana’s Suitcase Program which educates elementary school students about the Holocaust and about the importance of antibullying.
Jacob’s culinary talents are legendary. Since 2005, he has been head chef for the Yom Ha’atzmaut celebrations, becoming justly renowned for his delicious falafel. In 2010, he initiated the annual Israeli Brunch, which has also become an overwhelming success.
Jacob also served on the London Community Hebrew Day School Board, where he was influential in securing funding for the school through a variety of programmes. With great compassion, unwavering dedication and genuine modesty, Jacob is committed to enhancing the well-being of London’s Jewish community and making it a better place for all.
Proceeds from the 2018 London Negev Dinner will help fund the physiotherapy and hydrotherapy wing serving wounded veterans and severely injured victims of terror at the soon-to-be built Beit Halochem Centre in Ashdod.
Beit Halochem Canada, Aid to Disabled Veterans of Israel, is a non-profit organization committed to rehabilitating, rebuilding and enhancing the lives of over 51,000 Israelis who have become disabled in the line of duty or as victims of terror.
Situated on 7.4 acres donated by the City of Ashdod, the new Centre will be accessible to those living in Israel’s southern coastal plain. There are 6,700 disabled veterans in the area. Together with their families, more than 15,000 people will benefit from access to a facility in Ashdod.
State-of-the-art Beit Halochem Centres in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa, Nahariya, and Beer Sheva offer an array of exceptional services including physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, therapeutic devices, specialized sports equipment and training, family-oriented programming, and creative and cultural activities.
The new leading-edge Centre in Ashdod, and the highly specialised physiotherapy and hydrotherapy treatments that will be provided, are critical life-changing services for Israel’s brave men and women injured in the line of duty or by terrorist acts.
