Project: Health & Wellness Clinic
Promoting Health and Wellness in Israel through Tennis
The Israel Tennis Centers Foundation is pleased to submit a proposal to JNF Canada to incorporate a fully-equipped Health & Wellness Clinic in the multipurpose Frieberg/Green Social Service Complex at the Samson ITC-Beer Sheva.
The Health & Wellness Clinic will be comprised of a complement of service space including:
- Private Examination Room where children and athletes can receive annual preventative physicals;
- Health Care Counseling Room where nutritional and other health and medical-related counseling and education can be provided;
- Physiotherapy Treatment Room.
The Clinic will serve a diverse population of children and their families enrolled in tennis programs and other activities at the ITC-Beer Sheva. In addition, adult tennis players at the ITC as well as the membership of the new fitness center to be opened in the Frieberg/Green Social Service Complex will be eligible to make use of the preventive health education and medical services offered. The Clinic will provide access to a complete array of health and wellness services for a mixed socio-economic population.
We believe that the comprehensive delivery of health, tennis and fitness services will promote a healthier life style for children and adults, as well as encourage prevention and the early detection of disease through education and annual physicals. We intend to approach the BGU and the local hospital to create partnerships and collaborations in the delivery of on-site health and wellness services at the ITC.
Keynote Speaker: Bernie Smilovitz
Bernie Smilovitz brings sports to Detroit on Local 4 News. He is well known for his “Weekend at Bernie’s,” and “Bernie’s Bloopers”, as well as his traditional “We’ve Got Highlights.”
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised in Washington, D.C. It was there that Bernie remembers falling in love with sports, and went to sleep listening to the Senators’ baseball games. After attending the University of Maryland, he started broadcasting sports.
His passion for sports has not lessened, and his love of the game is evidenced in his high energy sportscasts. After moving to Detroit in 1986 to work for WDIV-TV, covering Tigers Baseball games and sportscasts, Bernie has not looked back. He has made Detroit his home with his wife Donna and two children. Bernie loves all restaurants, especially those with drive-through windows. He jogs three to four miles a day and enjoys basketball and tennis.
For the past 30 years, Bernie has worked his Detroit sources breaking stories and conducting in-depth interviews with hard to get sports figures and celebrities. His love of the game keeps his sportscast fresh and timely, and takes you behind the scenes of the sports that you love in ways only Bernie can do.
