2023 JNF FUTURE: AMBASSADOR PROGRAM COMMITTEE MEMBER’S

ABOUT US!

Kortney Shapiro | Co-Chair

Do you have a nickname?
Koko / Kshaps

What is your age?
33

Where were you born?
Toronto, Canada

Out of all the Jewish organizations, why JNF?
JNF provides me a direct link to Israel, where I have family and have lived myself. Furthermore, Israel plays such an integral role in my life and has always been there for me in so many ways and being a part of JNF allows me the opportunity to give back to Israel and support the infrastructure, education, citizens, and so much more.

What do you love most about Israel?
I love its strong will and welcoming spirit; I love the zest for life among the diverse communities; I love the ever-changing landscapes as you drive from Eilat to the Golan Heights, each area bringing its own mystique and beauty…and of course, I love the food!

What did you want to become when you got older?
I wanted to be an editor in chief of a fashion magazine and be involved in community.

Molly Martin | Co-Chair

Mo or Molls

What is your age?
25

Where were you born?
Hamilton, ON (go Ti-Cats)

Out of all the Jewish organizations, why JNF?
I was originally drawn to JNF by the amazing community of people, and I have stayed for the meaningful work I have seen accomplished, firsthand, over the last few years.

What do you love most about Israel?
I love that it feels like home – I can’t exactly put my finger on it, but it’s the feeling of comfort and relief that I get as soon I step off the plane. Also the food, of course.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Funny enough, I always wanted to be a lawyer when I was a child. My mom was my hero and role model growing up, so given that she is a lawyer it was a no brainer for me – all I wanted was to follow in her footsteps. And now I am fortunate to be just a few months away from officially doing so.

Where were you born?
Toronto

Out of all the Jewish organizations, why JNF?
I’ve been involved with JNF my whole life, from Tu B’shavt fruit platters in elementary school to Negev dinners and Israel missions. My favourite thing about JNF would be the ability to meet amazing people who are passionate about Israel (including my wife, who I met on a JNF Israel trip).

What do you love most about Israel?
I have been to Israel 18 times, and my favorite things about being there are the food, seeing my family and exploring historical sites. I hope to share my passion for Israel with others in the GTA.

Where were you born?
Toronto

Out of all the Jewish organizations, why JNF?
JNF is an organization that is dedicated specifically to raising funds for projects in Israel. Israel is always there for Jews living in the diaspora. I feel like its our duty as Jews outside of Israel to contribute to the country that has given so much to so many diasporic Jews. As someone who is blessed to have lived in Israel and visited countless times, I feel indebted to Israel and want to be apart of an organization that is committed to its development.

What do you love most about Israel?
What I love most about Israel is that the people and the culture at-large have this juxtaposing duality of warmth and welcome, while also being no-nonsense and blunt. No matter if you’ve been to Israel one time or one thousand times, you always instinctively feel like you’re apart of a country-wide family. I guess the food is okay too.

What do you do for fun?
I’m a lawyer, I don’t get to have fun but I really enjoy being active and playing sports. I also love playing chess, board games, and hanging out with friends.

What is your age?

Where were you born?
Toronto

Out of all the Jewish organizations, why JNF?
After 4 trips to Israel and having the opportunity to study in Jerusalem on exchange, I have felt a deep connection with the land of Israel and have always believed in supporting it. I volunteer with JNF because through numerous incredible projects, JNF makes a tangible difference in the daily lives of Israelis.

What do you love most about Israel?
I can’t decide on just one thing! I love the culture, the people, the food, the energy. I love how welcoming people are, opening their homes to others who are visiting and inviting strangers to their homes for shabbat, always happy to celebrate life and have a l’chaim and some delicious food from the shuk.

What is one of your best memories of childhood?
Getting my first and only dog – a German Sheppard husky mix when I was about 6. It caught me by surprise, and she became such a wonderful part of our family.
