HONOUREE
Moses (Moe) Levy
Moe arrived in Winnipeg as a teenager from his birthplace of India and pursued a business degree at the University of Manitoba. His acumen took him into the worlds of business and entrepreneurship, education, government, and philanthropy. His vast experience has contributed in making him an invaluable member of the Jewish and general communities in Winnipeg, Canada, and Israel.
Through his leadership of The Asper Foundation, Levy helped the Jewish community of Manitoba flourish in the areas of education, culture, poverty reduction and community development. He created a national student travel program for Holocaust and human rights education, which has, taken over 13,000 Canadian students through a special course in human rights education which concludes with a trip to Washington, D.C.
In Israel, he conceived and developed the innovative international teacher educational programs in Holocaust education at Yad Vashem, developed several Community Action Centres aimed at serving at-risk youth and underserved families of Russian and Ethiopian immigrants, and other initiatives that span the country.
He played a pivotal role in establishing the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and was instrumental in creating the Asper Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Management, now the Stu Clark Centre for Entrepreneurship.
