JNF Canada is heartbroken by the devastating wildfires in Israel, which also impacted Canada Park. This cherished forest was made possible by the generations who came before us, who started to fund Canada Park in the 1970s because they were deeply committed to supporting Israel’s green spaces and environmental future. For many Canadian families, Canada Park became a symbol of that commitment—an expression of tzedakah often passed down through generations.Since its completion in 1984, Canada Park has welcomed visitors and Israelis of all backgrounds, offering lush greenery, hiking and biking trails, picnic areas, and the many health and environmental benefits of a thriving forest. At its heart stands a grove planted in memory of Americans and Canadians who lost their lives in Israel’s wars or to acts of terror. Every year, more than 300,000 residents and tourists visit the park, free of charge.

At this time, it is still unsafe for foresters to do a full accounting of the damage. It has been reported that over 2,000 acres of forest within the park have been destroyed, with more than 5,000 acres affected across the wider region. The scale of this environmental loss is profound. The full extent of the damage will be revealed in the near future. Before recovery can begin, firefighters must extinguish all active blazes and address potential flare ups, clear the dangerous debris, and address any urgent infrastructure or safety needs. JNF Canada has started an appeal to help fund some of the first phase work, which will focus on clearing the debris so that it is safe for a variety of professionals to assess the situation and create a plan to revitalize Canada Park.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the brave emergency responders who are working tirelessly—often at great personal risk—to contain the fires and protect lives, land, and legacy.
