Music and dance often transcend cultures, bringing us together for the universal pleasures of movement and sound. Anyone who has travelled abroad knows that all it takes is one invite to a dancing circle to feel like a part of the community.
Since 1996, the Clore Centre for Performing Arts has brought together students young and old from all over the Upper Galilee – from kibbutzim, moshavim, Druze and Arab towns – for formal training in music and dance. One of its mandates is to promote co-existence and understanding by encouraging youth of all backgrounds to make music together. It is available to all denominations, providing scholarships and support programs to promising students and rehearsal and ensemble spaces for all students and residents in the region. The Center plays a crucial role in creating harmony in the region, hosting cultural and music events that bring people together from all walks of life. It also brings tourism and profile to the region.
To better serve its 1000 students, the Centre is undergoing a large expansion that will feature an architecturally stunning new wing of the Centre. Several rooms must be upgraded, converting existing dance studios into a musical Ensembles Room, and an Orchestra Studio (more information on next page).
Location: Kfar Blum is a kibbutz in the Hula Valley part of the Upper Galilee in Israel.
