Therapy Gardens at Hosen Centre

The “Hosen” Centre is a holistic health centre in Be'er Sheva, providing mental health care to Israel’s diverse populations: men, women, families, new immigrants, and a large Arab Bedouin community. The centre supports more than 400 patients a year who struggle with PTSD, depression, anxiety and schizophrenia. Combining physical and mental therapy, the centre builds personalized programs for each patient, tailored to their specific needs: personal sessions, group therapy, day centre and occupational rehab. This holistic approach is proven to be the most impactful way to help those struggling with mental health to lead healthier and happier lives.

The Hosen Centre was surrounded by an empty plot of land, which needed to be developed into a green space for the patients and staff. Transforming the outdoor space will help patients benefit from more fresh air, reconnect with themselves and family members, and begin integrating back to an independent life.

I can say, addicts in general are very sensitive people. The connection to nature, to sit here and listen to the wind, birds, trees, is an integral part of the healing process.

Through planting, we connect to ourselves, to our childhood. I’ve been sobered for two years now, thanks to this place. I got my wide and kids back. I won the lottery.

The outdoor training area, for exercise and training equipment to provide patients with an engaging and green outdoor space to do their therapies, gain physical and mental strength, and enjoy the benefits of being outside.
The community therapy garden, a shared space for growing vegetables and plants. This relaxing and rewarding hobby is a part of patients’ therapy programming, requiring patience, focus, and care in a calming and therapeutic outdoor environment.
