Finding hope in a new community

Sadly, Yaniv has experienced years of abuse. He ran away from home when life on the street seemed safer. This is a decision that no youth should have to make.

A shockingly large number of Israeli children have experienced abuse and neglect, but only a small percentage will receive treatment. This is where ELEM enters into action, saving Yaniv and others from the dangers of living on the street. Thousands of ELEM volunteers scout the streets in search of the wandering youth. One volunteer approached Yaniv and gained his trust, encouraging him to speak with someone at the shelter. Since then, he’s received all the support he needs – group therapy, mentorship, legal advice, and tutoring to get his education back on track. Without ELEM, youth on the street have little chance of recovery.

With your generosity, this year’s High Holiday Campaign will help fund the renovation of a shelter in Jerusalem where abused youth like Yaniv try to be themselves again. The current facility is terribly dilapidated. With your help, JNF can ensure that there is a warm and comfortable shelter to serve as a home for them. These youth had so much taken away from them, let’s give them something beautiful. It is our responsibility to care for our extended family in Israel and ensure that nobody is left behind.
