Annual Tu Bi'Shevat Campaign
2024
We asked ourselves – how can we support Israel and our own communities?
The Jewish response to trauma has always been to help someone else in need. Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks z’l said, “Jewish people kept hope alive, and hope kept the Jewish people alive.” Together, we keep hope alive. We will memorialize, we will rebuild, and we will get stronger.
We have selected two special projects for our annual Tu Bi’Shevat Campaign, and we hope we can count on you to show your support for Israel, especially this year.
JNFs around the world have agreed to “adopt” a community and we chose Kibbutz Kissufim, a community of 260 people next to the Gaza border, where 16 members were murdered by Hamas, three kidnapped and dozens were injured. Residents in Kissufim are experiencing loss, grief, and isolation. To support their recovery, we are rebuilding the playground and daycare centre for their children, and a youth club for their teenagers, so that once the residents return, the community’s children will have places to gather, get support and recover from the traumas they experienced.
Kibbutz Be’eri was another hard-hit southern community and was amongst the kibbutzim who saw the worst attacks. It has been decided to plant a Memorial Forest, within the Be'eri Forest, to honour the 1,200 lives lost on Oct 7 and in the following days.
